Site Investigations //

Creating a space from + within the space.

Repetitive Design - Collage -Photography

Creating a series of 2D collaged imagery, I used the site context of my apartment complex outdoor area, in order to investigate how selecting physical elements in a photo, and then copying – pasting & continuing, removing, re-placing, re-arranging and reconstructing elements – changes our visual perception of how a space is physically arranged.

Methods -

Identifying repetitive qualities in an environment (e.g. lighting patterns in the unaltered/original image, centered.) then cropping and extracting the imagery of these – then repeating a cut, copy and paste ‘process’. This is by selecting contrasting effects (light and shade) and using the same process of erasing said effects. The only change in process is to zoom further out each time a section is erased.

Identifying repetitive qualities in an environment (linear patterns of the timber flooring and barrier, circular features of the exterior façade) then cropping and extracting the imagery of these – then repeating a cut, copy and paste ‘process’. Next, these are repeated back into the image, and re-arranged to create an physical material extension of the existing images elements.
