Intital Material Investigations  //

Model Made - Iterations
Abstract Model Making – Repetitive re-making with predetermined route.

Exploration 3 is an investigation into reforming the same materiality through model making.

An ‘outcome’ is determined by 4 specific steps.
A singular ball of putty was selected as the consistent material object to be repetitively reformed.

Step 1: Flatten ball of putty into a circular disc.

Step 2: Fold one side of disc evenly over the lay on top of other half.

Step 3: Pinch both of the now cornered ends of the ‘disc’ and pull towards the center in an equal measure.

Step 4: Pinch from either side of object and pull towards the center of the other rounded side.

This process is repeated 48 times in an attempt to replicate the original and first outcome of these steps (shown last in the series of top 4 steps).

This is to explore the concept of “repetition pointing at the eternal, because a work based on repetition never finds its ultimate border.”

“…where the notion of beginnings and endings is precluded and where, instead,
the uncompleted and eternal become possible."
